The Cabin & Cody

The Cabin I rented in Wapati turned out to be just right... It was a Homestead Cabin built in 1910. A homestead cabin was a small cabin built first, as a place to live while the "big house" was finished. I am short so the low ceilings were no problem, and every piece of the cabin inside and out was original wood.. The furniture was mostly antiques and they had a ton of cool decor like a wooden indian standing by the fireplace... (which was made from rocks scattered around the land and homemade mortar). The pics  are of the front porch and the views from it..

The bathroom had a free standing iron soaking tub which could cure whatever ails ya...  It had this neat faucet contraption with a hand shower.... Notice how unambiguous the operations of it are... All you need to know is four english words and you can fully operate it. No need for user manuals in 17 languages or help from a subject matter expert... I realized while staring at it, that ambiguity is a big source of stress... We should try to weed it out of our life...  It's amazing the wisdom that occurs in an old iron soaking tub... ;-)

Originally I was going to spend the day exploring around Yellowstone some more, but I would have had to go back over that snowy mountain... So I decided to take a soft day and go to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West over in Cody, about 20 miles away... I had a couple of people tell me it was way more than you would expect and they were right... It has five sections so it is really like five museums in one. The collection of guns was overwhelming... If your ever in Cody you should spend some time there... I wandered around for 4 hours and even went through the section on western art... The cougar picture below was my favorite. It seemed to catch the moment when curiosity changed into "hey what's for dinner ;-)

When I got back I took a hike down to the Shoshone River that was near the cabin... It was a great river and I down was there for a couple of hours, mostly just taking it all in.... As you can tell from the picture, the Aspens were just starting to turn...

One the way back from the river  I was being watched by this rabbit guarding the firewood pile. He didn't seem to be afraid of anything..

The only thing I had left on my list was to wash my bike... It had some bugs on it... and hey it is a new bike,
