Cruising Again
The last two days were all about getting from Spearfish SD to Fish Lake Utah... I divided it into to two drives, first getting to Rawlins Wyoming and then the next day heading to Fish Lake... Both were long days of driving but presented different challenges. The one thing they had in common was beautiful scenery and Pronghorn deer... (those things scare the crap out of me)
On Friday I watched my weather app and waited till I thought it had passed, but then I spent the next couple of hours driving in the rain. When I told a couple of old biker dudes what I was doing on this adventure they both told me that I would run into weather and I needed to be prepared... I thought I could tech my out of it but I was wrong and got my baptism (pun) into the world of driving wet. The bike handled great and only a couple of places got wet, my hands and hip pockets... I guess the old dudes were right.
But the day finished dry and Rawlings turned out to be a nice town of about 10K... The lady at the hotel pointed me to Penny's Dinner for a great supper.
There were a couple of things I noticed along the way. First I noticed that Buzzards should not try to pick at a carcass in the middle of the road when the speed limit it 75 or 80... (they are just not quick enough or smart enough) I would see whatever was left of something piled in the middle of the highway and then a couple of other unidentifiable remains a little further down the road, but this time with feathers. (I think there is a life lesson here somewhere)
Another thing is that folks that put yard art that looks like a deer, near the road, are just not right...
When you drive across Wyoming and Utah you see some really big farms... From my background, 500 Acres is a big farm.... These folks have farms that have to 100,000's of acres. They probably measure it in square miles instead of acres.. The only thing they seem to grow are cows and the hay to feed them. The only thing more consistent than farms were Pronghorns...
Interstate 70 through Utah has some amazing scenery for an interstate. The wind was really rough and I heard on the news later there were 50 mph gust... I believe it. I like the 80 mph limits and it let me stretch the new bike out a bit without going over....... too much.
I made it to Fish Lake just before dark and got settled in to my little cabin... It's small but has everything I need... Tomorrow is Bryce Canyon.
